The Early Years Department provides culturally rooted early childhood education, family support, and intervention services for children aged 0–6. Operating through Enji Maajtaawaad Early Years (COTTFN) and Éenda Noochiikiing Child Care Centre (MDN), as well as EarlyON family programs, the department ensures accessible, high-quality learning opportunities for all families. Programming emphasizes Anishinaabemowin, Lunaape, and Oneida language revitalization, land-based learning, and cultural teachings, helping children build a strong foundation in identity, health, and school readiness. Services include licensed child care, family workshops, developmental screenings, and culturally tailored health initiatives. The department also runs literacy programs, naming ceremonies, elder mentorship, and health fairs that bring families together and strengthen connections to community and culture. With partnerships across the region and active workforce development for Early Childhood Educators, Early Years is committed to ensuring every child and family can thrive.
